Students use up-to-date laptop computers to do research, practice academic skills, view pictures, learn keyboarding, and much more. Calculators are used for problem solving and identifying math patterns. Our instructors take advantage of teaching using "Elmo", a camera to project pictures, information, and 3-D objects for whole class viewing. We continue to add technology to our program for both teachers and students. |
Mr. Jeff Taylor, a graduate Theater/Music education major, is providing a creative music program for us this year. He brings expertise as our students have music three days a week. |

| Mrs. Diane Williford is teaching Russian to our students this year. It is a wonderful opportunity to expose our children to another language and culture. Students have 20 minutes of learning Russian each day. | Four days a week our students partner with a reading buddy from another class to practice and enjoy reading. Our buddies become special friends. Everyone wins in this program. | |||

| Each Wednesday afternoon "someone" reads and shares their love of reading with our classes. It may be a parent, a college faculty or staff member, a college students, a community member, or even an advanced Sterling Academy student. We all look forward to this special time during the week. | Mr. Tyler Deganhardt has returned to the Academy this year and headed up the physical education program. He is an Exercise Science major at the college and provides challenging and active activities for our students 4 days each week. | |||

Art is an integral part of our curriculum and is often used to deepen understanding of an academic subject but is enjoyed for art's sake and for exploration of many types of media. In the spring semester, clinical teachers enrolled in Elementary Art Methods classes teach practice lessons for each grade. Mrs. Best loves to get into the classrooms, too, and create art experiences. |
The leadership council is a new program this year to develop and direct the leadership abilities and character of our students in their last year at the Academy. It is composed of six of our students in the Advanced Class and meets twice a month with Mrs. Best. |
