Science

Insects - Insects are our first unit of study.  Each student should be able to identify different insects and be able to tell characteristics of them.  Every student will have the opportunity to create their own insect as a conclusion to the unit.

Animals- Animals is a unit we will cover after Christmas (probably!!).  We will study the five different animal groups and characteristics from each.  If we are lucky - we will probably have animal visitors during this unit.  Always makes for a very interesting month or so!! (Click here to see the Animals web page! )

Human Body - We will look deeply into 3 body systems while studying the human body -   the digestive system, the respiratory system, and the circulatory system.   I feel it is important for students to have a basic, but yet concrete understanding of how their body works. (Click here to see the Human Body web page! )

Experiments - I like to use mini experiments inbetween longer science units.  We will "mess" with mixtures, solutions, and reactions; magnets; batteries and light bulbs; and any other fun but interesting science things I can think of.  These mini lessons provide valuable terminology and science facts for later study.  (Click here for Circuit Construction Kit!)

Nutrition - We will spend a good deal of time reviewing the food pyramid and learning the nutrients our body needs to be healthy. Students will be involved in a health education program designed to encourage them to eat more fruits and vegetables and learn to enjoy daily physical activity. EAT SMART. PLAY HARD.
