6-Trait Analytical Writing Process

Through the use of individual editing, peer editing, and group editing on the overhead, we study all six traits individually. These are put to practical use through a variety of writing assignments throughout the year.

Easy Grammar

Although a large amount of our grammar instruction is provided by the daily editing exercises, we also use the Easy Grammar workbook. It presents concepts in a scaffolding manner to help create mastery learning. It is based on the prepositional approach which allows students to more quickly identify other parts of speech. Being able to easily recognize the subject and verb in a sentence has been found to be extremely helpful to reading comprehension skills.

Student teams have daily practice in composing sentences of varied size, sentence beginnings, and other grammatical criteria.
