Dolch Words

Set I        Set II

Why These Words?
Popper words teach children to instantly recognize the 220 Basic Sight Vocabulary Words which they must know in order to become good readers. Research shows that these words make up 75% of all words used in first grade reading books, and 65% of all other primary books.

Each of the 220 words must "pop" into the child's head the instant he/she sees a given word. If they are to "pop," the child cannot stop to spell or sound. If a word does not "pop," the child is told the word at once. Telling the child immediately is the only way to teach effectively.

The easier words, in set one, are for the average child in first grade, and the harder words, in set two, are for second grade.
