Guided Reading Students will participate in a leveled guided reading group on a daily basis. Oral Reading and Silent Reading practice reading at school and home daily both silently and orally parent and teacher modeling and reading orally to the child practice reading with expression and fluency practice reading at an appropriate rate Reading Comprehension reading with understanding (able to answer questions accurately about a passage) making an inference or drawing a conclusion sequencing understanding cause and effect fact and opinion identifying main idea and supporting details predicting Exposure to differences in people through types of literature basal readers author/novel studies character studies display of cultural books Vocabulary and Decoding Skills exposure of new words word meaning skills (using hte context, finding base words, synonyms/homonyms/antonyms) digraphs (ch,sh,th,ck,kn,ng...) blends (bl,gr,fl,fr,sl,st...) dipthongs (oy,oi,ow,oo,ou,au,aw,ew) phonics skills (vowels sounds, R-controlled vowels, beg./middle/ending sounds) sight word skills (Dolch words or words from basal) basic spelling rules (chg.
