REGIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL RESULTS! Congratulations to the following individuals and ensembles for qualifying for the State Music Festival at Kansas Weslyan University on April 28: Brass Choir, Trombone Choir, Trumpet Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Maryn Robson--French Horn, Coby Comley--trombone, and Zack Brashearo--trumpet.

STATE MUSIC FESTIVAL The band and choir will perform at the State Large Group Music Festival at Marion on April 18. The schedule for the day is as follows: Mixed Choir at 11:00; Band at 1:25; Girls' Glee at 2:45; and Boys' Glee at 4:00. All the vocal events are in the Fine Arts Center at the High School. The band performs in the Sports and Aquatic Center.

BUSY! I don't know if the band can get any busier. In the three weeks before Spring Break we had a concert, State KMEA, 5 sub-state basketball pep band performances, the CKL League Music Festival, a concert at Bethany College, and 3 state basketball pep band performances at Manhattan. Whew! Spring Break came just in time.

However, it hasn't slowed down much. Since Spring Break we've sponsored the Faculty/Senior basketball game, held a band carnival, prepared for Regional Solo and Ensemble Music Festival and had guest conductors come in to work with the band. State Music Festivval for Large Groups is on April 18 at Marion, State Solo and Ensemble Festival is on April 28 at Kansas Weslyan University at Salina, our Pops Concert is on Monday May 7, and our Children's concert is on Wednesday May 9. I think we're going to make it!!!

HELP SAVE THE MUSIC! The arts and arts education are getting hit hard by budget cuts all across America. The arts (music) provide things that no other discipline can...see Dan Rather's quote below. The National Mucis Education Association is tryng to connect supporters of the arts through an online group called "ground swell." This group provides advocacy for music education in our schools. You can join by going to http://advocacy.nafme.org/. Join today and help save the music!

MUSIC ADVOCACY QUOTE:

Music majors have the highest SAT scores of any discipline. Also...66% of music majors who applied to medical school were admitted, the highest percentage of ANY major. 44% of biochemistry majors who applied were admitted.
