3 R’s: Respect,
Responsibility, Ready to learn
RESPECT:
* This classroom will be a risk-free environment; therefore,
you will not be allowed to interrupt, insult, or disrespect the teacher, fellow
students or substitute teachers.
* Common courtesy, common sense and appropriate behavior is
expected of all (“please” and “thank you” are terms I should hear
frequently). Raise your hand and ask
permission to speak, to move about the room, for hall passes, etc.
* Every student has the right to learn and the teacher has a
right to teach. My classroom is not run
by democracy. I am the boss (but I am
also human)!
* Disrespect
can be in the form of words, attitude, behavior, and appearance.
* Respect is
a two-way street.
* Keep
hands, feet and other objects to yourself.
* Respect other people’s property. Please do not touch, borrow, use, play with,
or move the windows, computer, stereo, refrigerator, decorations, anything on
my desk, or anything that doesn’t belong to you!
* Class is not over until I dismiss you (the bell does not determine what
happens in my classroom).
* You are expected to listen politely and attentively to the
teacher, class discussions and all school-wide announcements.
RESPONSIBILITY:
* You are responsible for your own actions and will be held
accountable for them.
* You are responsible for knowing about, completing, and
handing in (within two days) work missed due to an excused absence, and by
your return for a school activity or a prior-arranged absence (ie: doctor
appointments). In the event of a test,
special arrangements must be made between the teacher and the student within
two days. Assignments given during an
unexcused absence cannot be made up, with a grade resulting in a “zero.”
* Honesty is expected in all circumstances. Cheating will result in a grade of ZERO and
an office referral (this includes plagiarism).
* You are responsible for keeping school property free of
unwarranted damage (this includes cleaning up after yourself; do not leave
trash, books or assignments on the floor).
Food and drink are only allowed in the classroom with my permission, and
can/will be revoked if any person cannot handle the privilege responsibly.
* You are responsible for completing and turning in all
assignments on time; late work will earn you a “zero.”
* You are expected to keep your planner up-to-date and bring
it to class every day. If you
fail to do so, you will need to go get it and take a tardy. Weekly lesson plans
will be posted in the classroom; copy them into your agenda!
* There will
be no seating arrangement unless the class earns it.
* I will conduct my class fairly. That does NOT mean I will be equal. Make sure you understand the difference!
READY TO
LEARN:
* Leave all distractions at the door (this includes objects
not necessary for the day’s lessons, problems with relationships, etc.).
* You will come to class ON TIME and with the appropriate
materials (you must be in your seat when the bell rings!)
* Assignments will be only be counted IF they: have the appropriate heading, are written in blue or black ink or
pencil, and have all spiral fringes cut off.
* Unexcused tardies will always result in loss of 2
participation points. If tardies are
excessive (as deemed by me), further consequences may include detentions,
office referrals, or communication with parents.
* Restrooms, water fountains, and lockers are to be used
between classes. Hall passes will only
be given at my discretion, and you will lose a portion of participation points
for interrupting the learning process.
If excessive passes are used, they will be given for emergencies only,
and will result in loss of points and/or time to be made up at the teacher’s
convenience. You must have your
agenda to get a hall pass.
* In the event that class work is completed before the hour is
over, be prepared with a book or alternate assignments, or additional work will
be given. Sleeping, drawing and
conversation are not options.
* Extra credit is exactly that: “extra.” It will be given on a case-by-case basis, but
only when all
other assignments have been attempted.
* Your
personal best is expected at all times, under all circumstances.
EVALUATION:
90 - 100% = A
80 - 89% = B
70 - 79% = C
60 - 69% = D
59% and
below =
F
Although I
do not “weight” my grades, daily assignments, tests, and projects will
typically make up approximately 80% of your grade, and the other 20% will be
comprised of participation and attitude (20 points a week). These points are earned, not given. I also will not announce every time I
penalize a student, as appropriate behavior is simply expected. Keep in mind that participation cannot happen
in the event of an absence; unexcused absences result in complete forfeiture of
points. Missed points due to excused
absences can be
made up at the end of the semester by arrangement with the teacher. Students gone due to a school activity will
not be penalized by loss of participation points.
CONSEQUENCES:
You will not
be given any warnings; this IS your warning.
As a general
rule, we will follow the guidelines set forth by the school’s handbook. Depending on severity and frequency of
undesirable behavior, discipline can take the form of loss of participation
points, extra work, detention, formal apology, office referral, conference with
student, teacher, administrators, and /or parents, or removal from the room.
REINFORCEMENTS:
Appropriate behavior and gaining knowledge often supply their own rewards. Personal satisfaction will be reinforced by verbal and written approval and/or recognition from the teacher, special privileges, and/or contact with parents.
