During the split nine weeks course, the student will examine the importance of personal hygiene, proper nutrition, exercise and sleep. Kitchen acquaintance of utensils, equipment, recipe reading and measurements will be introduced. Basic food labs will put to use learned skills and develop group teamwork. Basic child care principles such as: routines, activities, snacks and minor first aid will be discussed as it pertains to employment as a babysitter. Bedroom decorating tips will be researched and a home furnishing sewing project will be required. |

Economic terminology of supply/demand and needs/wants will be applied through on-hands activities. Application of budget and check writing will be introduced with a simulated check writing practice set offered through the bank. Consumer awareness will include deciphering food labels, unit pricing, car purchasing and maintenance costs, and figuring costs related to decorating housing interiors. Food preparation as an introduction to catering will focus on preparation and presentation of foods. Self-respect as it deals with healthy relationships and a healthy self-concept will be discussed as it pertains to adolescence, fitting in, peer pressure and being true to one's self. |
