Library Services: COVID Edition

During the first two weeks of school, our library staff gave orientation lessons to 26 classes K-12 and checked out and delivered 1,032 books!

Because students are not visiting the library right now due to COVID safety measures, library services are being provided in classrooms.  Take a look at the library’s COVID Procedures webpage for Sterling Grade School and for Sterling Jr/Sr High School for details. This page includes all the information we gave students about how to check out library materials, reminds them about login/password info, and also features a video tutorial on how to use Destiny, our online library catalog, to request books.

Remote students learning from home should contact library staff about picking up library books.

What steps are being taken to ensure that shared library materials will be safe and not cause the virus to be spread?

  • Books will be checked in by library staff and placed in quarantine so that any possible traces of COVID virus will be gone before giving the library item to another person.  Studies show that effective quarantine time is 4 days for books, 5 days for magazines.  After the quarantine time has passed, the library materials can be shelved or checked out to other patrons.
