Mrs.Madden and student Judah P.

Congratulations to 2nd grader Judah P., who was selected to represent Sterling Grade School in the statewide Blick Youth Art Month Art Competition through the Kansas Art Education Association.  Prichard’s teacher, Mrs. Madden selected his artwork, titled, “Monster Jack” and submitted it to the Kansas Art Education Association where it was judged against artwork from students across the entire state of Kansas.  His crayon piece featured a monster and featured a colorful texture background.  Judah said, “My monster Jack can jump really high!  The blue means he’s a really good swimmer and he has really good eyesight because he has 3 eyes.  I like how my background has lots of colors together!  His artwork was included in an art show at the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library during the month of March.  On Saturday, March 26th, Madden and Prichard along with their families attended the Youth Art Month Awards Celebration at the library where Prichard was recognized and awarded 2nd place for his artwork in the Elementary Art Division.  Prichard received a good bag full of prizes and Madden was also presented a gift certificate to Blick Art, a class set of pastels, and a set Blick Tempera Paint.

Annika Wooten, former Miss Kansas 2019 and 2020 was the featured guest speaker and she spoke on the importance of art in her life.  Miss Wooten represented Kansas at the 2020 Miss America Competition earning a Top 15 placement at the competition in addition to a non-finalist talent award for her 90-second speed painting performance of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
