Birthdays

Dear Parents,
This year has gotten off to a great start and I appreciate all the work that you do as parents to help make that happen!  I wanted to take this opportunity to clarify how we celebrate student birthdays at Sterling Grade School.

We love to celebrate our students and make their birthdays a special occasion while protecting class time and ensuring an equitable experience for all students.  Our classroom birthdays are celebrated at the end of each month (usually on a Friday).  On Friday of this week we will recognize July and August birthdays.  SGS kitchen staff will provide birthday cookies (with sprinkles of course) and juice for all the classrooms.  Each student who has a birthday during these months will get a special SGS birthday pencil and all students in grades K-6 will get a freshly baked treat in the afternoon.  By celebrating birthdays in this manner, we ensure that all of our students get to celebrate their special day and it saves instructional time because we aren't "celebrating" 16-24 times a year.  One other benefit to parents is that it also saves you time and the stress of having to get birthday treats to school with your child on their birthday.  If you would like to join your student for lunch in our cafeteria on their special day, you are welcome to do so.  Just call the office in the morning and let us know so that our kitchen staff can prepare enough meals for that day.

Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thank you for your understanding.  And thank you for sharing your kids with us.
