USD376 COPPA Notification

Sterling Public Schools (USD376) may contract with publishers or other third-party website operators to provide an online curriculum that aligns with district standards or other services that support the teaching and learning processes of the district. These websites are offered to benefit students and the school system, including homework, web-based testing services, and supplemental curriculum. Website operators provide USD376 with full notice of their collection, use, and disclosure practices. Use of the website and collection of any information from students are solely for the benefit of the school and for no commercial purpose.

USD376 uses a range of digital resources to meet student needs. Under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), certain applications (apps) and websites require parental notification and/or parental consent before collecting personal information from children under the age of 13.

USD376's list of approved apps and websites is below. Applications and websites are submitted by staff for approval before implementation in classroom instruction. Some of the evaluation steps include:

  • Age of student (Under 13, Under 18)

  • Parent permission requirements (COPRA Compliant Apps)

  • What data is collected

  • Student data privacy

  • Content addressed by the resource

  • Cost of the application/website

In addition, USD376 works with educational organizations that offer online learning opportunities that use apps or websites. Organizations appearing in the approved partner list on this page have agreed to comply with COPPA, the Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and the Kansas Student Data Privacy Act.
