Amy Brownlee

Amy Brownlee, a teacher-librarian for Sterling USD 376 schools, has been selected for a Fulbright Teacher Exchange fellowship for the 2025-2026 cycle from the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

Brownlee is one of 120 master teachers who is part of Fulbright Teacher Exchanges this year through the Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms program. Participants are selected based on their leadership, collaboration, and teaching skills, along with their dedication to integrating global competencies into their lessons that prepare students for success in the global marketplace

The year-long fellowship includes four components: a rigorous online global education class; a teaching symposium in Washington, D.C.; a two-week field study abroad visiting schools and cultural sites; and the creation of a global education guide to share experiences along with the skills and resources developed during the program.

“I am so honored to be selected for the Fulbright Teacher Exchange fellowship alongside outstanding educators from around the country,” Brownlee said. “The global education training I’ve received has challenged me to provide learning experiences that connect students to our local community and to the world.”

Brownlee’s field experience will be in Taiwan. A group of twelve U.S. educators will spend two weeks in Taiwan visiting schools, cultural sites, and connecting with a host teacher to gain an in-depth view of the country’s teaching methods and curriculum.

Brownlee was named the 2017 Kansas School Librarian of the Year and serves as secretary of the Kansas Association of School Librarians. Her interest in place-based learning experiences has led to participation in a Fulbright-Hays program in Africa with the non-profit Ethiopia Reads, a transatlantic study trip to Germany, and a White House Historical Association teacher institute in Washington, D.C. In her 25-year career, Amy has secured over $99,000 in grant funding for USD 376 and given over 40 workshop presentations.

Fulbright is a program of the U.S. Department of State, with funding provided by the U.S. government. Participating governments and host institutions, corporations, and foundations around the world also provide direct and indirect support to the program, which has operated in over 160 countries worldwide.
