The Rice County Farm Bureau and Saline County Farm Bureau are celebrating the youth involved in agriculture education and are showing their appreciation to agriculture producers by paying the gate fee for farmers and ranchers and their spouses at the Sterling High School vs. Ell-Saline High School Basketball games on Friday, February 21. The games are at Ell-Saline HS, 414 Anderson St, Brookville.
Mrs. Beagley's 3rd Graders hosted a Bake Sale Auction during last night's basketball game. Thank you to all who came out and supported our cause by either baking the goods, purchasing the goods in the auction or making a contribution. We raised just over $2750.00 to go towards our goal for the Book Vending Machine. Our 3rd graders are very excited to watch their bill become reality.
Mrs. Morris and SGS's upper elementary staff hosted its annual Spelling Bee on Friday, February 7th, in the commons area at the Grade School. 24 - 4th - 6th grade students competed in the competition. Students were: Georgina, Beau, Kush, Paisley, Adelyn ( Champion), Annie, Aaron, Rylie, Mariam (4th Place), Royce, Abel (3rd Place), Ryder, Knox, Tucker, Ransom, Tucker, Harper, Wyatt, Charlie, Sam (Alternate), Gracyn, Brock (2nd Place), Landon, and Michael.
1st Place - 4th Place winners will advance to the county Spelling Bee in Lyons . Congratulations to all participants and winners! We couldn't be more proud to send our TOP spellers to Lyons to represent SGS.
Due to a lack of numbers on Hutch Trinity's Girls Basketball Team there will not be a Girls Junior Varsity Basketball contest tonight, Monday, Feb. 10th.
Sterling College Baseball team welcomed SGS students to school for Warrior Wednesday. Their excitement and encouragement was a hit with our students. Everyone was awake and ready for the day after running through their cheering tunnels.
Come out to the High School Basketball game tomorrow, February 11th, and buy some DESSERT to support SGS's 3rd Grade efforts to raise money for a Book Vending Machine. Students will earn tokens to buy the books from the vending machine by committing acts of kindness, continually doing the right thing socially and academically, and/or demonstrating actions that promote a positive culture in our building.
Congratulations to the Sterling JH Girls and Boys BB Teams for being crowned Champions of the Heart of America JH BB Tournament today in Marion. Sterling JH Girls defeated Moundridge 25-14 and the Sterling JH Boys defeated Central Christian Academy 65-35. Way to go Bear Cubs!
Wednesday, February 5th, January AR winners were rewarded with pizza and drinks in our igloo. Winner are: Sylvie, Omari, Lucious, Rachel, Kymberly, Alice and Ransom. Congrats to these readers for going the extra mile and reading their library books.
The SHS Scholars Bowl team ended their season at regionals tonight. They tied for third place with Inman in their pool, but because Inman won in head-to-head competition, Sterling did not advance to the championship bracket. Sterling defeated teams from Ellinwood, Stanton County, Medicine Lodge, and Syracuse and lost to Inman, Moundridge, and Central Christian Academy of Wichita. Scoring was led by our seniors. Team captain Mason Lockhart scored 100 and Lanae Welty had 80 points. Also scoring: Isaac Dyson 60, Kevin Ploutz 20. Way to go, Black Bears. You represented us well.
Tomorrow, February 5th ,will be early release! Students will be dismissed at 12:30pm. Teachers will stay for Professional Learning Communities.
The SHS BB games at Classical School of Wichita start at 4:00 pm tomorrow, Feb. 4, 2025. Games are as follows: 4:00pm JV Girls, followed by JV Boys, Approx. 6:15 Varsity Girls, followed by Varsity Boys. The location of the Classical School of Wichita Gym is at 6355 S. Willowbrook, Wichita, KS 67218

Congrats to Sterling High School Head Tennis Coach, Janae Ryan, for being named the Class 3-2-1A High School Tennis Coach of the Year for the Fall 2024 season. Great job, Coach!
Thank you to everyone that came out to celebrate SGS and their National Distinguished School recognition at half-time of the boys game Friday, January 17th. Our students, faculty and staff thank you for the heartfelt appreciation for all their hard work. The kids loved walking onto the gym floor to be acknowledged. This award isn't possible without the love and support of the parents and community. Thank you to the people of Sterling who keep expectations high and provide resources for us to attain our goals.
