
Thirty days until the snooze alarm isn't a multiple-press option. And 30 is the number of Division I-Ratings earned by Sterling Band and Choir students over the past year. All large groups and the vast majority of solos and ensembles earned I-ratings. #WeAreSterling


Thirty-one more days. 31 is the number of folks who show up every day to support our great teaching staff: cooks, bus drivers, custodians, secretaries, paras, interpreters, trainer, nurse, librarians, counselors, aides, IT, & admin. And we're grateful for them. #WeAreSterling


Thirty-two more days until teachers call the roll for day one of classes at SJSHS. And 32 is the number of classes that students can take during their four-year HS tenure as Black Bears. #WeAreSterling


Thirty-three more sleeps until all students must get up and get to school by 8:00 rendering summer but a memory. Speaking of memories, they are plentiful today as we celebrate 33 KSHSAA State Runner-up finishes for Black Bear teams over the past 64 years. #WeAreSterling


Thirty-four days remain to get all of those things on your list done before school starts. Thirty-four is also the number of graduates in the most recent graduating class, the Class of 2022. #WeAreSterling


Thirty-five days until pencils are writing, computer keys are clicking, tardy bells are ringing, and choir students are rehearsing in the commons. And 35 years ago, this young lad began his first year teaching at Sterling and has been here since. #WeAreSterling


36 days until they're all back in school. And 36 is the number of KSHSAA-affiliated activities available to students (and this doesn't include FCCLA, FFA, FBLA, Shooting Club, J-Teens, AFGM). 95% of our student body is involved in at least one activity each year. #WeAreSterling


Thirty-seven days until school is back up to full-speed at SJSHS. 37 was also the number of birthdays celebrated last April by Mrs. Christina Rowland. She also one of seven Black Bear Alumni who currently teach at SJSHS. #WeAreSterling


Thirty-eight students promoted from Junior HIgh to High School this past May. Coincidentally, today marks 38 days until their first full day as Freshman at SJSHS. Their summer, along with 7th graders and new students, ends the day prior with a half-day orientation. #WeAreSterling


39 days until SJSHS is filled with 215 (give or take a few) teenagers. And 39 is the number of combined games won without a loss last year for our Varsity Girls' squad and our A-Team JH Boys' team. Girls won 2A State & the boys won the HOA. #WeAreSterling


40 days until school starts next month, unless you are one of these 40 members of the class of 2028. Our 7th graders, Freshman, and all new students will have a 1/2-day of orientation on August 18 before classes officially begin on the 19th. #WeAreSterling


SHS students Maddie Fales & Isabelle Bates were selected to the KCDA All-State Soprano/Alto Choir, joining 92 other young women in a July 8 concert at Washburn. Dr. Katherine Chan, Director of Choral Activities at Northeastern Univ. was the guest conductor. #WeAreSterling


41 days of "official teenage summer" remain. And in 41 days, Mrs. Anthony will kick off her 41st year of teaching, the last 35 of those in Sterling. Mrs. Anthony teaches music (grades K-4) & Spanish at SHS. She also works with & accompanies the SHS Choir #WeAreSterling


42 days until school takes up again and when it does, these two ladies will begin their 42nd year of teaching and building into the lives of teenagers. Mrs. Dutton and Mrs. Prather have a combined 79 years of teaching experience in Sterling Jr/Sr High School. #WeAreSterling


43 days until we kick off classes for the fall semester. And 43 is the number of KSHSAA Team Championships won by Sterilng High School over 9 different events, including two this past year in Girls' Basketball and Speech & Drama. #WeAreSterling


44 days until the 8:00 bell rings again. And 44 is the number of years since Scott Thode & Kim Schultz became the 1st SHS State Champs in Duet Acting. Since 1988, Black Bear Duos have won another 22 titles, with Lucas Gilmore & Ty Fulbright winning in 2021. #WeAreSterling


45 days to the official end of Summer Vacation (for all students). 45 is also the number of SJSHS students who were selected by KMEA to perform in a band or choir state-level performing group. #WeAreSterling


46 days to day one of classes for all students. And 46 is the number of different schedule combinations that were examined this spring and summer to allow our students the best chance of getting into the classes they selected. #WeAreSterling


47 days until school starts again. And 47 is the number of individual and duet State Championships won by SHS Forensics since 1988. The most recent winner? Karissa Wilson (Jr) this spring in Informative Speaking. #WeAreSterling


A mere 48 days until classes resume and, with that, we mark 48 years of Black Bear excellence at the State Piano Festival. In those 48 years since Miss Timmons and Miss Morton claimed I-ratings, 51 other SHS students have been added to the list. #WeAreSterling
