Storm season is in full swing! Sterling Schools has a shelter at each building that is opened to the community when a tornado watch or warning is issued by the National Weather Service. Here are our guidelines: If school is NOT in session: -At SGS the main doors and east facing doors are unlocked and signs are placed to guide people to the choir room. -At SJSHS the main doors to the commons are unlocked and signs placed to guide people to the south gym locker rooms. Pets are allowed but must be leashed and controlled or kept in a carrier at all times. If school IS in session: -During a tornado WATCH classes run normally. Anyone entering the buildings will have to enter through the main doors and check in at the office as a visitor. Our shelters are used for classes, so community members will have to remain in a designated area unless the sirens are activated or a tornado warning is issued. The designated area will vary depending on the time of day and activities in progress. NO PETS WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE SHELTERS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY. This includes emotional support animals. The shelters will be extremely crowded with all of our students packed in. Animals stressed by the storm and the tight, crowded space are more likely to exhibit violent behavior, increasing the risk for injury. If you have any questions, please contact Jim Goracke at 620-278-3621
